However, the registration closes 7 days before the test. Late registration closes 4 days before your test date and has a late fee of $ 40.

What to Bring on Test Day:

On the test day, you are only allowed to bring your identification (ID) document(s). Any other personal item that you choose to bring may be inspected and/or confiscated.

It is preferable if you bring at least 2 copies of your ID, and each must. If you do not bring valid and acceptable identification, or if the name on your ID does not exactly match the name on your registration, you will not be permitted to test and your test fee will not be refunded.

Check the full identification requirement for more information.

IBT VS TOEFL paper-delivered testing

The TOEFL iBT test, delivered via the internet, measures reading, listening, speaking and writing skills. It is offered more than 50 times a year and is administered online at testing sites around the world.

The TOEFL PBT test, which has been discontinued, was a paper-and-pencil test that measured reading, listening, grammar and writing skills and was offered only in locations where testing via the internet is not available.

The revised TOEFL Paper-delivered Test, which replaces the TOEFL PBT test, measures reading, listening and writing. There is no speaking component because of the technical requirements of capturing spoken responses.

TOEFL test format

Wonder why the number of questions in the reading and listening section varies that much? Those extra questions, that do not count toward your score, are either questions that enable ETS to make test scores comparable across administrations or new questions that help ETS determine how such questions function under actual testing conditions. and obviously, the time changes depending on the number of questions you have.

Scores

ETS uses both human raters and automated scoring methods to offer a complete and accurate picture of a test taker's ability. Here is how your score is scaled:

  • Reading Section (Score of 0 - 30)

  • Listening Section (Score of 0 - 30)

  • Speaking Section (Score of 0 - 30)

  •  Writing Section (Score of 0 - 30)

  • Total Score 0 - 120

The test contains a report that includes performance feedback, which is a reflection of your performance level and a description of the kinds of tasks that test takers within the reported score range can typically do.

There is no passing or failing TOEFL score; individual higher education institutions and agencies set their own score requirements. TOEFL scores are valid for 2 years after the test date

Although the score range for each of the 4 test sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing) is from 0 to 30, each section is a separate measure and each measure has its own scale.

Whatever raw score you get in either the Reading and Listening sections is converted to a score range from 0 to 30.

Each of 6 tasks in the Speaking section is rated from 0 to 4. The sum is converted to a scaled score of 0 to 30. See the TOEFL iBT Speaking Section Scoring Guide (PDF).

The 2 tasks of the Writing section are rated from 0 to 5. The sum is converted to a scaled score of 0 to 30. The Writing section is scored by:

  • evaluating the integrated writing task for development, organization, grammar, vocabulary, accuracy, and completeness

  • rating the independent writing essay on overall writing quality, including development, organization, grammar and vocabulary

See the TOEFL iBT Writing Section Scoring Guide (PDF).
